Harvest festivities are usually centered around food. In Finland, it was believed that if someone was left hungry during the old traditional ‘kekri’ harvest feast, then the next years crop would be dreadfully bad. Families woke up long before sunrise to prepare the feast. Delicate smooth porridge with home-made jams, fresh baked bread and dishes with root vegetables were served in all families. Not to mention beer, brewed according to each family tradition.
